The 26-year-old has Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Arrhythmia - a condition similar to the one which affected Bolton Wanderers footballer Fabrice Muamba.

Taylor missed his county’s pre-season fixture against Cambridge MCCU with what was thought to be a viral condition, but scans have revealed the shocking find.

Taylor tweeted: “Safe to say this has been the toughest week of my life! My world is upside down. But I’m here to stay and I’m battling on!”

He had played seven Tests since making his debut in 2012, averaging 26 with a highest score of 76.

He had also played in 27 one-day internationals, with an impressive average of 42.23 and a highest score of 101.
