Nash reached a 53-ball half-century before losing skipper Luke Wright, who was making his first Championship appearance of season, when Azharullah switched ends and got some late movement to defeat Wright’s defensive stroke for 14.

That made Sussex 87-4, but Nash had moved to 71 at tea with Matt Machan, who was dropped on 5 by Alex Wakely at slip, unbeaten on 24, with Sussex 127-4.
