The world famous touring side have confirmed that West Indian fast bowler Tino Best, South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs and veteran West Indian batsman Gordon Greenidge are all to play.

The match will be accompanied by a corporate meet and greet, with the chance to ask questions to the players, which the club hope will be hosted by cricket icon Henry Blofeld.

Young cricketers will also have the opportunity to learn from the stars in an open coaching session.

Worthing chairman Tim Dunn said: “We’re delighted to announce this fixture that will see some great international cricketers players involved.

“We’re also in talks with the Lashings about other stars to play in the game and we hope to have an announcement soon.

“The game will be in the day and we’re hoping that the weather is kind for us so as many people as possible can come and watch.”

The match will be aiming to raise funds for St Barnabas House, a charity which provides specialist palliative care to adults with advanced progressive life-limiting illnesses.

Corporate booking packages will be announced soon, with details published on Worthing’s website and Twitter page.

The game will take place midway through Worthing’s return to the Sussex League Premier League, after winning Division Two by 12 points from Hastings & St Leonards Priory last year.

For the upcoming season, Dunn and captain John Glover believe the club will need to strengthen their batting line-up if they want to have a successful campaign.

Dunn said: “We are in talks with a few batsmen and we hope to have an announcement shortly.

“Our aim is to stay up and cement our place in the top division, which I believe is well within our capability.”

With their return to the top flight, Worthing will now have the opportunity to sign a player from County Championship Division Two neighbours Sussex.

Despite their need for a batsman, Dunn is relaxed with who the signing is and his area of expertise.

He said: “We’re in talks with Sussex to sign a player, we would like him to be a batsman but that isn’t essential. We’ll take whoever we’re allocated and it will be great to have him around the club.”

Aside from Sussex professionals, Dunn wants to build his own team around the youngsters that he has at the club.

He said: “We are very passionate about our young players, the likes of Nick Oxley and Jamie Piper, and we want to build a team around them over the coming years.”
