Jordan, 25, who moved to Sussex from Surrey before the start of last season, enjoyed a meteoric rise during the 2013 season as he struck 59 times with the ball in the LV=County Championship, with a best of 6-48 on his debut against Yorkshire at Headingley.

He said “It’s great to have signed an extension to my contract at Hove. I really enjoyed my first season with Sussex and hopefully I can continue putting in solid performances and to help us be successful, especially with our strong start to the campaign.

“I want to be able to help Sussex have the best chance of winning trophies, and hopefully the new contract will give me the platform to push for further international honours across the next couple of seasons.”

Jordan’s strong lower-order batting and athletic fielding earned him many plaudits during the season and he capped a fine year by making his England One-Day International debut against Australia last September at the Ageas Bowl.

Over the winter he went on to tour Australia with England playing both ODI and T20 cricket before also touring the West Indies and playing in the ICC World Twenty20 Tournament in Bangladesh.

Sussex’s professional cricket manager Mark Robinson said: “CJ has had an incredible year and there is no reason why he can’t continue to take his career forwards.

“He hasn’t changed since the moment he walked in. He has been humble, honest, hardworking and as a cricketer, exciting to be around. We look forward to watching him develop over the next few years.”
