Green light for new Sussex cricket body

SUSSEX CCC’s AGM took place last night at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground with members overwhelmingly giving the green light for the integration process between the club and the Sussex Cricket Board to proceed.

The plan is for the club to be integrated into one body entitled Sussex Cricket from November 1, 2015.

It will be the first of the first-class counties to be configured this way and has the full backing of the ECB, who are themselves responsible for both professional and recreational cricket.

Sussex chairman Jim May said: “The key benefits of the integration are a stronger overall brand of Sussex Cricket, with cross-referrals through a common organisation and membership structure.

“We will streamline management, reduce bureaucracy and overhead costs. This will lead to better business outcomes, and enhanced development of all cricket in the county, as we strive to maintain the success of our professional squad.

“Sussex Cricket has a strategy of inspiring a lifelong passion for cricket and our members have given the go ahead for us to become one body embracing the whole game”.

Aside from the integration process, May and treasurer Simon Crundwell were re-elected as board directors for a further three-year term while Jim Parks was confirmed as president for a second year.

Sussex’s chief executive Zac Toumazi spoke about Sussex’s readiness for the new season and also the new marketing partnership which the club has formed.

He said: “We are now in partnership with both Pleece & Co and Cobb PR who are offering marketing support after the commercial restructure of the club late last year.

“We are confident that this new approach will help our aims of attracting more people to Hove both to cricket and to non-match events.”

Cricket performance manager Keith Greenfield, who was representing the professional squad and coaching staff who are currently on the pre-season tour of Dubai, said “We are very happy with the balance of the squad this season having made new signings.

“We believe we will have a very competitive team as we commence our 175th season. It is especially pleasing that our youngsters performed admirably in Dubai at this early stage of the season helping us retain the Emirates Airlines T20 trophy.”
