Despite another defeat against promotion chasing St James’s there were signs of encouragement for the remaining five games of the season.
Asked to bat in overcast conditions Lindfield showed plenty of determination against fine bowling by the home team and got themselves into a useful position to set a challenging target at 153 for 4 with Kevin Chamberlain 27 and Simon Shivnarain 68 batting particularly well.
Unfortunately in the pursuit for a large total wickets started to fall on a regular basis as the innings sadly petered out at to a disappointing 166 all out. The pick of the bowlers was Michael Murray with 6 for 39 in 16.4 overs.
The batting conditions improved after tea and despite an early wicket Sam Cooper batted with authority to score an entertaining 109 not out as St James cruised to victory by 8 weeks. Captain Shivnarain was upbeat after the game: “We have 5 games to play against 3 of the sides we have already beaten this season. We have a great team spirit in the team and must continue to believe in our ability.”
This week Lindfield entertain Ansty in a game which could be pivotal to their season
Sussex Premier League 2nd XI 1st Division
Lindfield 2nd XI 116 all out v Preston Nomads 2nd XI 118 for 4: Preston Nomads won by 6 wickets
Playing at the highest level in the second XI competition is proving a challenge but is also giving the younger members of the team great experience for the future as Skipper Gareth Court continues to blood the highly promising players from the academy.
Despite scoring only a disappointing 116 all out against a strong Preston Nomads side, the youngsters in the team, in particular Dominic Morgam 20 continue to show promise with the bat. Aided with the experience of Phil Weir 35 and Court, the team still has plenty to offer and give the opposition a run for their money.
A potential shock appeared on the cards as Nomads lost 4 quick wickets. However, an un-broken partnership of 74 (Liam OBrien 68nt) took the game away from Lindfield as they lost by 6 wickets.
