Chipps confirmed top spot in Group B1 last Saturday with a five-wicket win away to Worthing seconds in a low-scoringh game.

It was not all plain sailing in the reply but Chipps got home by five wickets.

A knock of 29 not out by Samuel Avinou was the key as Chipps got home in 23.2 overs.

The win meant they topped a group that also included West Wittering, Stirlands and the second XIs of Middleton and Chichester Priory Park.

Chipps were the only team in the group to win all five games, while the loss on Saturday meant Worthing seconds ended with defeats in all five of their games.

Chipps captain Bourne said: “It’s been great to get some cricket in this year considering it was looking very unlikely at the beginning of the season, so thank you to the league for organising the August Cup.

“We’ve had some good competitive matches and it’s been a massive positive to integrate some of the colts into the first team environment.

“We’re looking forward to play-offs and hoping to end the season on a high.”

Chipps will play Southwater - who won Group B2 - in a play-off semi-fimal on Saturday, with the winners going into a final a week later.

Meanwhile Worthing’s first XI fared no better than their seconds, being bowled out for 93 to lose by 82 runs to Group A3 winners Bognor.

Worthing did well to restrict Bognor to 175-9 in their 40 overs, with Harry Dunn and Jay Mahesh each taking three wickets.

But the chase never got going and at one point they were 21-7 before Shane Felton, John Kaye and Robson Piper gave the scoreboard a bit more of a respectable look. Still, they were all out for 93.

In Group A5, Findon finished second after a thumping 102-run win over Henfield, who they bowled out for 88.
