It all began back on April 29, with The Duke of Norfolk’s XI taking on Oxford University.

Batting first, the Duke’s team amassed 375-1 off their 50 overs with Australian batsman, Jordan Silk, scoring more than 200.

The team total proved to be the highest ever on the ground by a Duke of Norfolk team, while Silk’s score was the best posted by an individual Duke batsman.

As well as success stories on the field, there has been some good news off it as well.

For this year only, Sussex’s annual festival will be labelled as ‘The Arundel Festival of Cricket presented by Irwin Mitchell’.

Sussex host Northampton-shire over four days from Wednesday, June 22, in a Specsavers County Championship Division 2 encounter, before facing Gloucestershire in a T20 clash on Sunday, June 26.

Indeed, there is something for everyone to look forward to over the coming weeks as the ground will hold a South of England cricket tournament for the deaf, a local schools’ festival, T20 national independent schools finals and national ECB finals including the County 2nd XI T20 and a three-day under-17 County Championship final.

Friends of Arundel Castle Cricket Club executive secretary, James Rufey, has been pleased with the cricket on show so far and wants it to continue throughout the summer.

He said: “It’s been a wonderful start to the year. There is much more to come and the variety of cricket – charitable and corporate – is something matched by very few cricketing organisations.

“Of course, we are much looking forward to the Sussex Festival and it is marvellous that Irwin Mitchell are supporting this for the upcoming year.

“We are also delighted that our newly refurbished pavilion and bar are proving so popular with our many members and visitors alike and we hope the good cricket carries on for the next few months.”
