Being selected to represent England in Delhi four years ago was without doubt my proudest moment, so having the chance to go one better than the bronze medal we achieved there is a dream come true.

We have been in Scotland for more than a week already, which has absolutely flown by and has been packed full of practice.

Despite the fact that all of the ten-strong team have been playing constantly for weeks, we were still itching to get on the greens.

There is a real feeling here that you cannot spend too long on the grass that you will be competing on, and everyday the five greens have been awash with colour as the countries take part in various training, matches and drills.

There is definitely an edge to the play, especially if you have arranged a match against another country. No matter how friendly everyone is on the surface, these are people that you are going to be fighting against for medals in just a few short days, and every second counts in the lead up.

The kit that we have received this time is on par with if not better than the Adidas clothing we played in while in Delhi.

The athletes village, which we moved into on Friday, is a team strip only zone, which makes life easier, as well as creating a sense of identity with all of the different sports and countries.

It is hard to describe what life in a Commonwealth Games village is like, but there is a real buzz and excitement in the air.

Although not everyone has arrived yet, there are already more than 5,000 athletes and support staff residing here.

The dining hall has to be seen to be believed, it is huge, with all sorts of food available. It is very interesting to watch what people are eating and trying to guess which sport they are. Never before has curry for breakfast and plates piled high with multiple carbs seemed so normal.

We also have an incredible medical team which includes physiotherapists, soft tissue experts and doctors to make sure everyone is in their best shape.

We start competing today (Thursday) at Kelvingrove Bowls Green, but first we will take part in the opening ceremony, where we will march on with the whole of team England.

The atmosphere will be electric as each athlete realises the enormity of being picked to represent their country at a Commonwealth Games – and the only feeling greater will be standing on the medal podium.
