Colburn enjoying mixed fortunes in Renault Clio Cup

For the first time this season, Colburn managed to put his Westbourne Motors’ Clio on pole position ahead of round 11.

However, it proved not to be his race, after a first-lap incident cost him the lead and saw him come home in 10th place.

Colburn said: “I had a big moment coming out of the first corner sideways but I managed to recover it and join the race back in third place.

“Then I was going down the inside into turn two but there was already another car there in my blind spot who I didn’t see, resulting in me getting tapped on the rear and going into a spin.”

Colburn qualified fourth for race two and was determined to make up for a disappointing result in his first race.

After racing into third from the start he was pushed onto the grass and rejoined in fifth, but then capitalised on a mistake from the driver ahead to pass and set about chasing down Matt Allison in third place – which he managed, although failed to catch the top two drivers.

The Worthing driver did, however, obtain the fastest lap for both races – a feat he has achieved for the past four races.

The next Clio Cup meeting is at Rockingham on the weekend of September 17 and 18, which Colburn heads into fourth in the standings, 17 points behind the championship leader.
