Carolyn completes gruelling challenge

WORTHING Harriers’ Carolyn Eva recently completed the gruelling 44-mile Lizard to Lands End run in Cornwall.

She finished the challenging course in 13hrs 15mins and is now thinking about doing the race yet again.

The Endurancelife Classic Quarter ultra marathon was first hosted in 2007 with great success. The aim of the race is to run between dawn and dusk from the southern most point to the western most tip of Cornwall, and England, along the south west coast path, which includes steep climbs and descents.

She said: “It was the first time that I have done anything like this. I entered about eight months ago as I decided I needed a goal. “I chose this particular ultra marathon as I am from that part of Cornwall, it is where I grew up, and all my family are still down there.

“The toughest part was definitely the last 10 miles. They took forever, partly because I was so exhausted and partly because the terrain here was so so tough.

“The stretch through Marazion and Penzance were the easiest, about 25 miles in. I was feeling really good here, had found others to run with and this was a nice, very welcome flat section.

“In the last 10 miles, I kept falling to the ground, and then as soon as I finished I thought never again. But now time has passed, I am thinking maybe I should repeat it. There is also the option of a relay, so maybe that would be better.”

To prepare for the run, Eva had competed in several West Sussex Fun Run League meetings, the Ballbuster duathlon, Worthing 20-mile, the Brighton Marathon, Three Forts Marathon and the South Downs Marathon.
