Buzzing Burt's trophy ending?

SHOREHAM Football Club look to lift the John O'Hara Cup for the second time in three years at Three Bridges on Good Friday

Veteran midfielder Mark Burt, 40 this year, also hopes to lift the cup with Mussels for a second time. He was captain when they won the competition in 1995-96 but was not with the club last time around.

Now back at his hometown club, Burt admits he would love to end his career by lifting the trophy.

He said: "I'm still loving my football. I always have. Shoreham is where it all started for me, so it would be nice to finish with a cup.

"Is this my last season? I told the lads before the semi-final it was, and for everyone to give it their all, because it would be nice to win something.

"But the buzz is still there. I probably won't stop playing until my legs fall off.

"It was a long time ago when I last won it, but it would be fantastic for the club to win it. We're an up-and-coming club and are going in the right direction, with Mathew Major and Sammy Donnelly."

On his team mates, Burt said: "We've got a good nucleus of young players. Quite a few players have come in and bedded in straight away.

"Matt Hurley is a key player. We missed him when he was injured earlier in the season, and I think he can play as high as he wants. He's really been back on song the last few games.

"We like to get it wide to our wingers, where Owen Callaghan is another key player.

"And, one of the young lads, Dean Smith, has been a big plus. He's a box-to-box midfielder who never stops running. He's done very well."

On Ringmer, Burt said: "They're a quality side. Their lad up front (Marc Whiteman] has got about 40 goals but they have quality all over the park.

"Although we've beaten them twice in the league, previous results count for nothing. It's all about who turns up on the day and we'll be right up for it."

In their league games this season, Mussels won 1-0 at Ringmer and 2-0 at home.
