Bunch packs a punch on debut

CRAIG BUNCH made a goalscoring debut for Shoreham FC on Saturday but an impressive Lucas Mann equaliser earned Eastbourne UA a draw.

It was no more than Eastbourne deserved, considering they dominated much of the game. Mussels controversially took the lead through Bunch, signed from Whitehawk, 10 minutes into the second period.

Bunch appeared to be offside as he was put through one-on-one with Eastbourne keeper, Sam Reed. More importantly, he seemed to snatch the ball from Reed's grasp, showing his studs with a dangerously high foot.

Referee Colin Mallows' decision to allow the goal came as a surprise to the majority of the crowd. Moreover, it left every Eastbourne player questioning his judgement.

The home side were unlucky not to open the scoring when they created three corners in the first five minutes. Captain, Danny Gainsford, demonstrated his presence up front and directed two strong headers towards goal. The first was cleared off the line for a corner. The second crashed against the bar. Eastbourne were let off.
