Date set for boxer Child to begin his pro career

The 25-year-old, who turned pro in April, will take part in his first professional bout on November 23 at the Coronet Theatre in Elephant & Castle, London. Bouts in September and October were both called off, which is why Child, who fights for Brighton & Hove Boxing Team, has had to wait so long for his pro debut but he is now raring to go.He said: “I don’t know the name of who I’ll be fighting yet but I’m quite confident that I’ll take him out. “I’ve built up for fights in September and then October but both were cancelled, but I’ve been training three times a day –swimming, running, sparring, gym work – to make sure I’m ready.“I’ve been sparring quite well and Paul Newman is a really tough trainer, but now I want to showcase what I can do.“I’m a hard hitter and I’m hoping to carry that on.“I’ve gone down from 14 stone 4lbs to 11st 12lbs and I’ll be down to 11st 7lbs for the fight. I’m feeling so much fitter and sharper since I lost the weight and am feeling strong.”Child is a middle-weight south paw, who is determined to start his professional career well, with several members of his family and friends going to London to support him.He has been sparring with Lloyd Ellett, who has a 6-0 pro record and is on the same bill in London. After his first fight, Child, who won 20 out of 26 amateur fights, with 19 knock-outs, hopes to have another contest in December, with one in February already booked. He said: “I’ll take each fight as a learning phase. I’d love to get to the point where I could compete for an English title and, then, anything after that would be a bonus.”Anyone interested in tickets for the bout, or interested in sponsoring Child, can contact him on 07818 098499.Standard tickets cost £30,with ringside tickets £60.
