Wild flowers

What a pity that West Sussex County Council decided to mow the grass verges – the complete length of the river cycle path – so early in the year.

It seems to have taken place in August, when many wild flower species are still in bloom. These provide a valuable source of nectar for butterflies and bees and a home for many mini-beasts.

Perhaps next year the council could leave the mow until at least October.

I hope so.
