I have just been informed by the council to stop feeding the seagulls.
Someone has reported me to the council and, reluctantly, I have stopped feeding them.
It got me wondering why people live in a place like Shoreham and we have a football team called the Seagulls (there is a clue there).
These birds have lived here before all the houses were built. I have lived in Shoreham for more than 80 years. As a girl, I lived in Old Shoreham Road, opposite the airport, and there were always seagulls around, but I suppose people then were more tolerant.

• Editor’s note: Adur District Council asks people to avoid feeding seagulls on public pavements and in public areas but has no objection to anyone feeding seagulls in private gardens or areas where it would not annoy any residents.
