Poppy appeal

I applaud the work of many of the Royal British Legion volunteers.

But can someone explain why poppies appear mid-October and then on November 10 are removed from sale, at least on retail premises?

To me, Remembrance Day is on November 11. Surely we should be able to buy yet another poppy on that day (the previous ones bought may have been lost or fallen apart)?

I tackled a collector on this matter and was told, in no uncertain terms, to go to the Memorial Field on the ’morrow.

Not everyone is able to do this. I used to attend the service regularly but I am now obliged to go to Bexhill Royal British Legion home to celebrate the day with my aged aunt.

Surely poppies and collection boxes should be left in situ until the close of trade on November 11?
