Parking charges

H. Dunstall hit the nail on the head with his comment ‘the problem is the state does not have sufficient money’ (Herald letters, August 21).

This is why it is important to have a sustainable healthy economy so the state does have sufficient money to provide things like housing.

The local economic growth is being held back because of car parking charges at car parks serving areas of economic importance, such as Southwick Square, Shoreham town centre, etc. In effect, people are being charged a surcharge to shop locally.

The sooner the council allows free parking for areas of local economic importance, the sooner the local economy can start growing.

Each day free parking is delayed, the local economy is losing money.
