My late husband William (Bill) Evans was diagnosed with heart failure seven years ago.
A few months later, he was fitted with a pacemaker at Worthing Hospital, which gave him extra years of life.
Afterwards he was looked after by Dr Bob and his excellent team at the pacemaker Clinic.
Unfortunately, Bill was rushed to Worthing Hospital with pneumonia on July 10 this year.
The great people in Critical Care saved his life. He then went up to Eastsbrook Ward to recover.
The staff there were very caring and did their best to help Bill get stronger.
After nearly six weeks, he was desperate to get home.
The hospital arranged a hospital bed and all the care he needed and he came home on August 18. The carers were amazing and looked after him for four days.
When his condition worsened, a lovely district nurse arrived and cared for him until he passed away peacefully with his family around him on August 22.
We will never forget the kindness and compassion of all who cared for Bill through his illness and at the end of his life. The NHS is constantly criticised but here in Worthing we have an amazing hospital and a superb palliative care team.
