Disgust at councillor’s wage rise

I refer to your report last week of the recent rise in the council leader’s pay and I must say I am disgusted by the news.

Can anyone tell me why, I understand that very shortly we shall be getting a notice of intended rises to our council tax and I am beginning to wonder if we as council tax payers are to fund this rise. Let’s face it, it must come from somewhere. I honestly cannot see why such a rise can be given. Can this pay rise – and for that matter anyone else’s in the council, who receives vast sums of money – be justified.

I am a retired police officer and live in a normal three bedroomed house with a pension.

I can manage on some £29,400, afford a holiday about once a year, and live comfortable on my pension together with my wife.

We do not have expensive tastes. Where does this person live? Is it a grand house in the country with several acres of land. Of course, if they do, then I can possibly understand his exorbitant wage, possibly servants to pay for (I don’t think so). How important is this person?

I notice in your report it stated that if one pays rubbish you get rubbish, obviously a very good friend.

A rise of just over three thousand pounds a year. I hope my pension will rise that much but I doubt it.

Finally, I am sure that there must be plenty of people who could do the same job and take less money. I repeat this wage is disgusting.
