Worthing man arrested for animal cruelty released on bail

A WORTHING man who was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after a dog was discovered dead at the side of the A27 has been released on bail.

The 33-year-old man handed himself into Worthing Police Station last night (Monday, November 21) and after being questioned today has been released on bail until 14 December.

A forensic examination of the dog’s body is likely to be carried out by the end of the week to establish the cause of death.

Police were alerted to the dog’s death after a witness reported seeing a car being driven at the Devils Dyke car park in Brighton dragging a dog behind it at around 10pm on Sunday.

The dog, a Beagle Collie-cross, was then found in a lay-by on the A27 to the west of the Southwick Tunnel.

Anyone who witnessed the incident who has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 1416 of 20/11.
