Worthing Hospital physiotherapists prepare for South Downs relay

A TEAM of 24 physiotherapists will be completing a challenging relay race across the South Downs Way on Saturday.

The staff from Worthing Hospital’s physiotherapy department plan to complete the South Downs Way route on Saturday (June 25) by running in a relay.

Each runner will complete at least seven miles of the 100-mile route.

Nicky Sykes, senior physiotherapist, said: “It’s quite a challenge and I think people are feeling a mixture of trepidation and excitement.

“We’ve been training in pairs – some of us are fitter than others so some will be running longer distances along the South Downs Way than others.”

The team hope to raise £500 for the physiotherapy department, and plan to spend the money on smaller items of equipment to improve patient treatment, such as exercise aids.

Nicky added: “The idea started as a bit of fun for the department and we thought it was a great way to try to raise money for those items which NHS budgets simply don’t cover.”
