Worthing GSK plans total £120m

PHARMACEUTICAL giant GSK will invest £120 million of a £200 million improvements package at its plant in Worthing, it has been revealed.

The firm announced the investments at its plants in Worthing and Ware, Hertfordshire, in December, but it was unclear how much of the funds would be spent on its facility, in Southdownview Way.

The money will be used to construct a new bulk sterile building and filling line for the company’s leading antibiotic medicine, Augmentin, which is exported to 150 countries.

The news provides a boost to Worthing’s 950-strong workforce, and Worthing Borough Council leader Paul Yallop said it would secure the future of the facility.

He said: “It is a massive investment and I think it’s fantastic for Worthing.

“Ever since I can remember, there has been a question mark over the GSK production facility and if it gets planning permission, it will secure the future for the employees.”

Mr Yallop said a public consultation was being planned for January.

The new line is anticipated to significantly reduce costs, improve quality and enable speedier manufacturing times.
