Worthing dad brutally beaten in park ‘still in serious condition in hospital’ say family

A Worthing dad who was brutally attacked over the weekend remains in a serious condition in hospital, his family has said.

Alan Willson suffered life-threatening injuries after being attacked by a gang of teenagers in Longcroft Park on Easter Sunday (April 4).

Five teenagers - who cannot be named due to their age - have since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm with intent, but have been released on bail.

A statement released through police by Alan’s wife said: “My husband is still in a very serious condition in hospital. This has been made all the more upsetting by the fact we haven’t been able to go and visit him as a family due to Covid restrictions.

“We are thankful to all the medical staff who are working so hard to look after him.”

She said the family were incredibly grateful for the support shown to them by the community following the assault.

“To know that so many people care has brought us comfort at what has been an extremely difficult time,” she added.

“We ask that our privacy is respected and we are given time and space as a family to concentrate on my husband’s recovery.”

The attack has devastated the town and a fundraiser to support Alan and his family has now surged past £20,000.

More than 1,100 people have donated and offered words of love and support.
