Worthing and Adur to charge for planning advice

The charges, which would not apply to small-scale household schemes, were agreed for Worthing at last Tuesday’s meeting of the borough council’s planning committee.

Members were told that, for Worthing, an annual income of about £16,650 could be expected from residential development planning advice.

For Adur, with fewer applications and pre-application enquiries, it is envisaged that between £5,000 and £10,000 could be generated.

Where the development would benefit the town in terms of, say, affordable housing or helping a community or voluntary.

The charges approved for Worthing:-

“Minor” residential development of one to four dwellings.

One-hour meeting on site or at the council offices (if required) followed by written advice (if requested).

Charge: Fixed fee £150 for each meeting, plus VAT. Additional written responses will be charged at 50 per cent of the fixed fee.

Residential development of five to nine dwellings or between 500 and 999 square metres of commerical floor space.

One-hour meeting on site or at the council offices followed by written advice.

Charge: Fixed fee £350 for each meeting, plus VAT.

“Major” residential development, 10 to 49 dwellings or 1,000 to 4,999 square metres of commercial floor space. One-hour meeting on site or at the council offices followed by written advice. Charge: Fixed fee £550 for each meeting, plus VAT.

Significant major residential development of 50-plus dwellings or 5,000 square metres or more of commercial floor space. One-hour meeting on site or at the council offices followed by written advice. Charge: Fixed fee £750, plus VAT.
