World's Biggest Coffee Morning events in the area

M&S Shoreham, at the Holmbush Centre, is inviting shoppers to join café staff for coffee and cake on Friday as they pull out all the stops for the fundraising event.

Staff will be dressed as film characters, like Sandy from Grease and the Joker from Batman, and there will be a story corner for children at 10am and 3pm.

Further fun is on offer on Thursday, when the store will host a harvest-themed festival and customers will have the chance to take part in apple bobbing, try freshly-made toffee apples and guess how many conkers are in the jar.

Both events will raise vital funds for the store’s charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support. This is the seventh year of M&S collaborating with the charity.

Store manager Steve James said: “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning provides the perfect excuse to gather friends and family for a catch-up over a slice of cake and a hot drink, safe in the knowledge that you’ll be making a huge difference to millions of lives across the country.

“We’ll have lots of fun activities happening in store on Friday and as a cause which is close to the hearts of many of our staff and customers, we’re hopeful that this year’s event will be our most successful yet.”

• Spokes Cycles, in Beach Road, Littlehampton, will be emptied and turned into a tea room for the morning, from 9am to 1pm.

Owner Andrew Sleeman, known for wearing shorts virtually all year round, will be dressed in a suit for the event.

•Frankie Plastow will be holding a Macmillan coffee morning at her home, Panzas House, Letchworth Close, South Ferring, on Friday and Saturday, 10am to 4pm.

This will be the 11th time she and her daughter, Petrina, have taken part and they have so far raised £8,000 from their coffee mornings.

Frankie, who has had cancer three times in her life, will be shaving her head on Saturday to boost the total.

•Regency Court Nursing Centre, a Bupa care home in South Terrace, Littlehampton, will be holding a coffee morning on Thursday.

Littlehampton mayor Ian Buckland will be there to judge the Bake-Off from 10am to 11am.

• Mockingbird, a hand-crafted art and antiques café in Brighton Road, Worthing, will host a Macmillan fundraiser weekend from Friday to Sunday.

The three-day event includes coffee mornings and an arts, crafts and antique fair.

•Darlington Court care home, in The Leas, off Station Road, Rustington, is inviting people to join residents for their Macmillan coffee morning on Friday at 11am.

Fiona Wiederkehr, home manager, said: “This charity event is so simple and yet it gives us a wonderful opportunity to invite the local community, family and friends to join us for tea, cake and a chat, while raising funds to support the vital services and support provided by Macmillan.”
