This month the poems come from members of Tiger’s Eye Writers in Shoreham, creative writing workshops for children aged 7-11.
The Day Amber Believed in Herself
Amber, a colour,
and a name.
And a great friend.
Amber never believed in herself
So she never really achieved much.
I’ve tried to tell her she’s a great person,
if she just believed she was
then she’d be even greater.
She thinks that she would brag too much
if she was proud of her achievements.
But bragging and being proud are two different things,
completely different things.
Then one day she understood,
she understood what I was telling her.
She realised that maybe she was just scared,
scared to be herself.
Ever since that day she has done something that
made her the best person she could possibly be.
She believed in herself.

Stars, Sun and the Moon
I dance around the sky calling my friends.
I see the huge ball of light, I know I am smaller but bright.
I make pictures with friends in the sky,
Watching rockets passing by, humans dreaming to fly,
Looking at the silvery ball in the sky wishing I was nearby,
Feeling sad and bad but happy and glad,
Shining bright and satisfying children with my light.
Daisy Adhangale (age 8)
food sharer (well sometimes!)
hopping like a kangaroo
Katie Barber (age 8)
Listen, my crackling voice echoes around the cave making it shake.
The people come in, I’m crowded but lonely.
When they go I flicker and I slowly fade away.
Lila O’Farrell (age 8)
Night drips its silver tap tap tap
but it’s a lap of moonlight glowing lightly on the silver woodpecker.
A flowing waterfall gliding down a cliff
but it’s the silver woodpecker soaring gently down an old oak tree.
Lightning strikes a flicker of bright light.
It’s the silver woodpecker flying above the night sky clouds.
You won’t see it so seek it.
