TWO 19-year-old women were attacked in a carpark by three hooded men, one of whom was brandishing a hammer, in a ‘terrifying ordeal’.

The women were parked at Buckingham Park in Upper Shoreham Road, Shoreham, at around 11.30pm on Monday, January 13, when the men approached them and began shouting and swearing at them, telling them to get out of the car.

When the pair refused, one of the men produced a weapon, believed to have been a hammer, and smashed a window and one of the wing mirrors.

The victims managed to escape in the car with their attackers following on foot.

The mother of one of the victims said she feared them men had planned to sexually assault the two women.

“They were both really shaken up,” said the mother.

“It was a terrifying ordeal for them. They were sitting innocently in their car and then from nowhere just being attacked like that was horrific.

“You try not to think about what might have happened if they had got hold of the girls.”

One man was thought to be wearing a purple hoodie and they were thought to be in a dark blue or green car, possibly a hatchback, which drew up close to the women’s car.

The victims, who were unhurt, have chosen to remain anonymous.
