Countless people dream of quitting their jobs to travel the world – a Worthing woman decided to make her dream a reality.
Tori Bush, 29, from Broadwater, made a ‘joke’ about the idea with a friend in Japan, where she had been living and working before the trip.
After returning from a bike ride, the duo made the joke about her cycling home to the UK instead.
Despite having no bike or gear and much knowledge - the 29-year-old decided to take on the round-the-world cycle trip.
“I decided the idea in Japan because I used to live there and it was a special place to me – so I felt it would be nice to connect the two over land and would be something I would really enjoy,” said Tori.
Tori later returned to the UK to say her goodbyes to loved ones and friends.
She said: “I decided to begin my trip in America where I figured it would be easier to deal with things if they went wrong, a warm up if you will.
“I didn’t have anything so I had to buy it all from scratch. The bike, tent, cooking equipment, tools, clothing, sleeping equipment, water filter and more.”
The 29-year-old, who has been on the trip since January last year, has seen the likes of California, Tokyo, Bali, Singapore and Thailand.
Due to being ‘in the swing of things’ she said she ‘doesn’t do much research’ and just enjoys the ‘freedom’.
She added: “I quite like the freedom of just doing it as I go along you know – not planning anything too much. I like the flexibility that comes with that.”
The adventure cyclist has to carry everything on her bike, including cooking equipment, bike tools, clothing and her computer.
The trip, which she has spent mostly alone, has seen her stay in ‘beautiful’ campsites, to being caught in a ‘concerning’ snow storm.
Some would prefer company but Tori said she ‘much prefers’ riding alone.
She said: “I have met other cyclists on the road as we were going the same direction and we linked up for a while.
“It sounds very unsocial but I love the flexibility of riding by myself. Also it’s quite nice to have some time to yourself to think about things.”
The last of Tori’s trip will see her ride through Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and onwards into Europe, before she returns home.
