Among the passengers in the affected carriage were revellers returning home from Brighton Pride as well as a couple returning from holiday.

One passenger said: “I’ve never seen anything like that on a train I’ve been travelling on before. To be honest, it was just a very frustrating thing to happen when you’re so close to home and keen to get into bed.”

Landsberg has been bailed to appear before Worthing Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 17.
