Will Terry make it to the live finals of the X Factor?

TARRING grand-dad and X Factor star Terry Winstanley has been enjoying his new-found fame.

And the 51-year-old said he has been “blown away” by the support he has received since his initial audition on the popular TV show.

On Saturday and Sunday, Terry was seen performing during the boot camp round of auditions, before it was revealed he had made it through to the judges houses stage of the competition, along with 32 other acts.

Terry, who works an HGV driver for Shoreham-based Scoffold It, said: “I can’t describe how amazing the experience has been.

“It’s been a whirlwind – I’m getting mobbed everywhere I go, apparently I’m famous in Australia and all over.”

Terry is one of eight contestants in judge Louis Walsh’s over 25s category.

The judges houses stage involved Terry and fellow contestants flying out to Barcelona, where they stayed in a £58million mansion with their mentor Louis.

“I’ve never stayed anywhere like it in my life,” said Terry.

“We got to do a bit of sightseeing and then we focused on getting our performances right.

“We each got to sing twice and then Louis made his final decision.”

Terry said he is not even able to tell his family if he has made it through to the live finals of the competition, only his wife Robbie knows how what stage her husband has reached.

“It’s very difficult not to talk about it, but we are sworn to secrecy, which does make it exciting,” he added.

It was Terry’s grand-daughters Jordan, 11, and Jodie, nine, who live in Angmering, who entered him into the competition.

He said: “Everyone’s eager to see what happens this weekend – you’ll have to wait and see.”

The final 16 acts will be revealed during the show this weekend.
