West Sussex Social Enterprise Award up for grabs

A £50,000 PRIZE fund is on offer in this year’s West Sussex Social Enterprise Award.

The annual award, now in its sixth year, is run by the county’s social enterprise network, together, with the county council, and supports social enterprises in West Sussex.

Lionel Barnard, deputy leader of the council, who has responsibility for enterprise, said this year the awards were even more special than usual, as there was a total of £50,000 to be awarded, thanks to the county council social enterprise fund.

In previous years the award has gone to one or two organisations.

Thanks to the fund, there will be a grand total of ten winners this year.

The ten awards for £5,000 are for the ten best social enterprise ideas which will see an income generated from selling a product or service, and will benefit the community and/or environment in West Sussex.

The award can be used to start up a social enterprise or to help grow an existing organisation.

Cllr Barnard added: “We’ve supported these awards for a number of years and have had many innovative ideas put forward.”

The deadline for entries for the awards is Wednesday, January 4, 2012.
