West Sussex crossing offences by women

WOMEN motorists aged between 50 and 65 committed the most level crossing offences in the south-east.

Those are the findings of a new Network Rail initiative to curb dangerous and disruptive activity at level crossings.

A purpose-built marked police van, which contains cutting-edge camera technology to deter motorists from breaking the law at level crossings, started operations in January and has caught and helped prosecute 1,131 people.

The van carried out operations at 43 level crossings across the south-east.

West Sussex offenders constituted 13 per cent of the south-east total.
