West Sussex County Council to launch new day activities in September

TWO contracts to provide day activities have been awarded in West Sussex.

New activities in the Pulborough, Chanctonbury and Shoreham and Lancing areas will be launched in September.

West Sussex County Council has awarded the contract to Age UK West Sussex for the Shoreham and Lancing area, and to Age UK Horsham District for the Pulborough and Chanctonbury area.

Deputy cabinet member for adults’ services, Graham Tyler said: “These new day activities will encourage people to join in with their local community and start new social networks, so improving their wellbeing and quality of life.

“They will offer a range of activities mainly aimed at the elderly, for those who are frail and vulnerable as well as those who are more active.

“Those who attend will be actively involved in the way they are run and developed, to ensure all needs are met.

“Age UK have a proven track record in providing services for the elderly, and I’m delighted that they will be developing these new activities.”

The council’s day centres are moving to focus on specialist needs.

Diane Henderson, from Age UK West Sussex, said: “Age UK West Sussex is delighted to have the chance to increase the opportunities for older people to get together and find enjoyed and healthy things to do.

“We are very keen to respond to what older people in Lancing, Shoreham and Southwick want support to achieve.”

Sean McCrumlish, from Age UK Horsham District, said: “We are pleased to be part of this new venture, bringing greater involvement and social enjoyment for the older people living in the Pulborough and Chanctonbury area.

“We look forward to welcoming new members and volunteers who would like to share in developing the vision for these new day clubs.”

Both Age UK West Sussex and Age UK Horsham District are currently looking for volunteers to assist with the new day activities.
