Currently, the Conservatives control the council with 48 seats, followed by the Liberal Democrats on 21 and Labour on two.

However, there has been evidence to suggest the biggest gains will be made by UKIP.

A Comres poll yesterday (Wednesday, May 1) showed voting intention in areas where local elections were taking place.

Those polling figures are: Conservatives 31 per cent, Labour 24 per cent, Liberal Democrats 12 per cent and UKIP on 22 per cent.

The Herald and Gazette will be covering the count tomorrow (Friday, May 3) and will be providing live updates.
