A MAN is in a serious condition after being attacked by a large knife in a street fight in Shoreham

Police were called to Buckingham Street in Shoreham at 3.15am on Monday to reports a man had received a head wound after being assaulted.

A 47-year-old man was found with a head injury and taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Constable Andy Hobden said: “The victim is in a serious condition after being attacked by these men.”

A man had called the police because he believed he saw a man fighting with three other men in Freehold Street.

The three men then ran away and it is believed a weapon was used, thought to have been a large knife or machete.

DC Hobden added: “This type of incident is very rare, especially in Shoreham.

“We are in the very early stages of this investigation but this is a serious incident and we urge anyone with information to come forward and help us in finding who is responsible.”

The attackers are described as white males, one around 5ft 11in, aged about 50, stocky with short grey hair. Another is described as 5ft 8in, slim and wearing dark clothing and the third is decribed as bald and in his early 30s.

DC Hobden said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have seen these men having a fight and can give us vital information about what happened.”
