STRANGE creatures took to the streets for the launch of the Adur Festival on Saturday.
A giant snail from The Insect Circus thrilled crowds at three separate street parties, first in Fishersgate, then Lancing and finally in Shoreham.
Horned Gods from Hannah Fincent Dance Company, acrobats from The Black Eagles and musicians from Fanfara added to the fun.
Downpours mixed with periods of sunshine during the day but the weather failed to dampen the spirits of families enjoying the celebrations.
Children were able to decorate the road with chalk drawings and puppets from Colossal Crumbs popped up among the crowd to meet the youngsters.
Adur Festival co-ordinator Mella Faye Punchard said the whole day had been a great success and the decision to organise events in three separate areas – Lancing and Sompting, Shoreham and Coombes, Fishersgate and Southwick – had worked out well, giving people across Adur a chance to get involved.
Entertainment in Pond Road, Shoreham, also included samba from Beach Bateria, live music from Shoreham Allstars and tribal belly dancing from Shoot From the Hip.
Graffiti artist Zeezee Twenty Two helped children spray paint patterns on giant creature pictures and there were various stalls, such as cake decorating.
