VIDEO: Music festival licence decision

THE decision on whether to allow the largest-ever music festival in Sussex a licence was made in secret last night.

The written decision will be made public in the next five working days, following two evenings of presentations and debate.

At Adur District Council’s licensing committee meeting last night, a continuation from Wednesday evening, Sussex Police raised strong objections.

Mr Peter Saville, barrister for Sussex Police, said the conditions proposed had been changed overnight and the police did not agree to them.

“You have significant public opposition to the application,” he said. “On the face of it, it is an alarming application for residents.”

SJM Ltd, which runs the V Festival and Parklife, wants to hold a large-scale music festival at Shoreham Airport and already has permission from site operators.

Rob Ballantine, director of SJM Concerts, said the capacity would be limited to 35,000 people per day for the first year but the aim was to return each year for one weekend, building up to just under 70,000.
