Mayor Jill Long, who took part in the race, said: “Littlehampton is pleased to host the Santa Dash again and it is also good to see so many turn up despite the weather.

“We all know that Santa does magical things, so with a lot of Santas here, a lot of magic will happen, raising a lot of money and having a lot of fun.”

The race took the Santas along Littlehampton seafront, around Mewsbrook Park and along the promenade.

Many had turned out to support the charity after relatives had suffered from cancer.

Neil Jacobs, 54, from Littlehampton, said: “I support St Barnabas because my late wife was due to go there, so we do as much as we can for them.

“It will be fun. It’s just a shame it’s not snowing.”

Amanda Harvey-Robins, 44, was running with her son Callum, 10, in memory of friends who had died from cancer.

She said: “My friend’s sister passed away from breast cancer two years ago.

“We do this every year instead of sending Christmas cards, as it is a nice thing to do.”

Kerri McManus, 37, and her son, Ryan, 10, were running to raise funds for the hospice, where Kerri’s mother volunteers.

“We are from Southampton and came down to help last year and thought it was so great, we would volunteer and run this year,” she said.

“Last year was lovely weather but we are still looking forward to it this year.”
