A large part of the fire service’s role is working in the community, giving safety and fire prevention information to residents and businesses, potentially saving lives before disaster strikes.

Some people are eligible for free home fire safety visits from firefighters, while fire safety courses are available to businesses.

On Thursday, Gavin Ross, a firefighter with Worthing fire station’s red watch, took some of the Herald & Gazette team through a lesson in fire safety at work and in the home.
