Thompson has been in kennels since he was four months old and has been overlooked by visitors to the rehoming centre.

Staff at Dogs Trust Shoreham are now hoping someone will come forward to offer a temporary foster home, so Thompson can learn about life in a home environment, away from the kennels, until a new home can be found.

Centre manager Tracey Rae said: “A squeaky toy, lots of attention, a comfy bed and a tasty treat can be all it takes to cause little tails to wag.

“However, some dogs need a bit more and this is why Dogs Trust often look for temporary foster carers who can offer dogs a chance to live in a real home while they wait for a new owner.

“Fostering a dog from Dogs Trust can be extremely rewarding and a great option for animal lovers who want to spend time with one of our four-legged friends without entering into a lifelong commitment. The majority of the costs are paid for by Dogs Trust, so all the foster carer needs provide is love and companionship.”

Thompson is bright with a sweet character and needs an adult-only home home with another steady dog to help build confidence.

Fosterers need to be local and live within easy travelling distance of the rehoming centre, in Brighton Road, to ensure access to veterinary services.

Fosterers need to be flexible in working hours, or not working at all, so they can bring the dog in regularly if need be.

Foster homes can have existing dogs or live without any current pets, as there are a variety of dogs and needs.

Fosterers do not always need lots of dog experience, but do need to be compassionate, as well as willing to continue the dog’s basic training specific to specific behavioural needs.
