VIDEO: Diamond jubilee beacon lit in Worthing

A BEACON marking the Queen’s diamond jubilee was lit in Worthing on Monday (June 4).

The beacon was one of hundreds lit around the country to mark 60 years of rule by Queen Elizabeth II.

Beacons were also lit on the Promenade, Littlehampton, and at Shoreham Fort.

Speaking about the Littlehampton ceremony, town council spokeswoman Sofia Chittenden said: “It was an absolutely perfect evening.

“The full moon was out, there was no wind and we were amazed at how many people turned up to witness the night – we didn’t expect it to be that busy.

“It was a really patriotic evening.”
