The cause of the fire at a secondary school this evening is currently under investigation by the fire service.
At 7pm this evening, fire crews were sent to a fire at The Weald School in Billingshurst which was in the building’s ceramics room. Click here for the original story.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue spokesman said crews are still at the scene in Station Road, but that the fire has been extinguished.
The room was 20 per cent damaged by fire, and 80 per cent damaged by heat and smoke.
The rest of the three-storey building was smoke logged, but has now been ventilated and is undamaged.
The school will be open tomorrow morning.
According to the fire services spokesman, the cause of the fire is being investigated. They were unable to confirm if it was accidental or deliberate.
Sussex Police has been notified. A police spokesman said they are not involved at this stage.
The secondary school and sixth form teaches approximately 1,700 pupils.
