VIDEO: Aftermath of Sussex bus crash which left dozens injured

The collision happened at 9.20am this morning (July 6), in North Street, Brighton, and was declared a “major incident” by Sussex Police.

Alongside the police, the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) was on scene with seven ambulances and six paramedic cars.

The Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance was also called out.

East Sussex Fire Service was also mobilised, and crews from Preston Circus, Roedean and Lewes along with two officers were at the scene.

On arrival they released two casualties into the care of paramedics, and firefighters left the scene this afternoon,

Sussex Police and paramedics remain at the scene.

A SECAmb spokesman said, “A total of seven ambulances attended the scene along with six paramedic cars. Our Hazardous Area Response Team also attended along with the air ambulance. Patients were assessed and treated at the scene before we took a total of seven patients to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

“These included two male patients in a life-threatening condition. A further six patients with non life threatening injuries have been taken to Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

“A number of other patients (approximately 10) have been checked over by SECAmb clinicians for minor injuries before being discharged at the scene. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this incident. We would request that people avoid the area which is very congested.”
