PEOPLE gathered to watch Adur Ferry Bridge opening yesterday.

Some had come with cameras to record the opening, which was notified on posters at both ends of the bridge in Shoreham.

Others had not realised they would be held up briefly but expressed excitement at the unexpected opportunity to see the swing bridge in action.

The opening took about 15 minutes and it will be repeated tomorrow between 2pm and 2.15pm.

Regular monthly maintenance work is now carried out by West Sussex County Council on the first Tuesday of every month at 11am.
