ADUR Council has decided to tolerate the travellers at Southwick Recreation Ground, for a short period only.
The decision was made during a welfare assessment this afternoon.
A council spokesman said: “Taking into account all the circumstances, the decision has been made to tolerate the trespass for a short period only.
“Notice shall be served directing the travellers to leave by 11am on Friday.”
Two motorhomes and one caravan were reported to be occupying land off Croft Avenue earlier today.
The land is owned by Adur District Council and the assessment was made to ascertain the travellers’ needs, environmental impact of their presence and the loss of public amenity.
