The company said in a statement today: “The tragic events on the A27on Saturday have shocked everyone and our hearts go out to the families of the bereaved.

“We hope to be back to normal later on Saturday but the situation is evolving and customers are advised to check for updates and use our customer service team, which is working hard to keep customers informed, answering calls, emails and tweets, and broadcasting updates online and on social media.”

Because of the severe congestion on the roads between Worthing and Shoreham, a reduced service is in place between Worthing and Brighton.

This may involve a change of service at Shoreham and the drivers will be able to advise any passengers concerned.

• Route 9 is terminating at Lancing Mash Barn. Customers travelling between Lancing and Shoreham can use Southern Rail, customers between Shoreham and the Holmbush Centre can use Brighton and Hove’s route 2.

• The Pulse is unchanged but passengers may notice a reduced frequency as the buses cope with additional traffic levels, particularly on the Worthing to Lancing section.
