UPDATE: Supermarket reopens after power cuts affect South Farm Road area

A supermarket has reopened following a series of power cuts affecting the South Farm Road area, caused by a fault on the underground network according to a UK Power Networks spokesperson.

Morrisons on Newland Street had closed because of the powercut.

A spokesperson for the supermarket said: “The store is now open following a short closure due to the local power cut.”

There were a series of power disruptions in the area starting just after midday.

A UK Power Networks spokesperson said: “Our engineers worked as quickly as possible to restore electricity supplies to 698 customers after a power interruption at 12.29pm today due to a fault on the underground network.

“We are carrying out final checks on the network but believe all supplies were restored in stages by 1.02pm.

“We apologise to customers for any inconvenience this caused.”
