Police were called at 8am today following a report of a collision in North Street.
The road was closed and the air ambulance was sent to Homefield Park, a spokesperson for Sussex Police confirmed.
The collision was between a blue Volkswagen Golf and a pedestrian, police say.
The pedestrian – a local man believed to be in his 80s – was taken by ambulance to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with life-threatening injuries, according to Sussex Police.
The Golf driver – a 40-year-old woman from Worthing – was uninjured.
The ‘serious collision’ occurred in North Street shortly before 8am today, police say, and the eastbound carriageway was closed at the junction of Chapel Road as police remain at the scene.
