UPDATE: Littlehampton murder - post-mortem results revealed

THE post-mortem of a Lithuanian man murdered in Littlehampton on Christmas Day confirmed he died from a single stab wound to the heart.

The examination was completed yesterday (Boxing Day) and the details released by detectives this morning (Tuesday, December 27) as they continue their investigation into what happened.

Police were called to an address in Beach Road at around 9pm on Christmas Day, after receiving reports of the man in his 30s having been stabbed. Paramedics attended, but the man died from his injuries at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Hayes, of Surrey and Sussex major crime team, said: “A full investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death.

“The victim was at a party at a home in Beach Road before he was stabbed and we are speaking to a number of people who attended the party or who were in the immediate area at the time of the murder, 11 of whom are Lithuanian and are being supported by a translator. It is unclear at this time whether the victim was stabbed inside the address or outdoors.

“Detectives are speaking to local residents and viewing CCTV as part of the ongoing investigation. I would like to thank the local community in Littlehampton for their support while we investigate this tragic incident.

“Anyone who was in the Beach Road area at the time around 9pm on Christmas Day is asked to contact police or Crimestoppers immediately.”

Currently 12 people, eight men and four women, remain in police custody arrested on suspicion of murder.

Beach Road was temporarily closed to allow officers to carry out forensic searches as part of the ongoing investigation. The road has now been reopened.
